Morgantown Newcomers Club
The Morgantown Newcomers Club
welcomes you to West Virginia’s beautiful mountains,
clear streams and honest people.
The club helps new residents get
acquainted with their new home community and founded by
Pat Stewart of Pat Stewart REALTORS. The club is now
more than 30 years old.
It provides an opportunity for new
residents to gather socially, to develop new friendships
and to ease the transition. The club year begins in
September and runs through May, but you may join
anytime; not everyone arrives in the summer. New
officers are elected annually.
To make your transition easier and
a lot of fun, there are lots of activities, including
coffees and teas on the first Wednesday of each month in
the home of a member. No reservations are required for
these events. Luncheons are held at 11:45 a.m. on the
third Thursday of each month at a local restaurant.
Reservations for the luncheons should be made seven days
in advance.
Special events are held each month
or every two months. These include trips to various
points of interest in and around Morgantown. Members may
attend as many of these events as they choose.
In addition, there are a number of
small interest groups including bridge, “hands and
feet”, cards, couples dinners, needlework, scrap booking
and others.
Newcomers also support various
charities in the community by holding a luncheon at
which an auction is conducted with proceeds going to
various charities. Moreover, newcomers hold monthly
collections of articles needed by specific charities
like the homeless shelter, food pantries, etc.
Membership in the club is $10
annually and members receive a directory which contains
the names and addresses of members, names of officers
and their addresses and a schedule of events for the
year.
